About the fabric

Care instructions for swimming garment material

The fabric used in swimming garments in general is challenged by the constant wear and tear of being in strong sunlight, salt water in the sea, and, in swimming pools, chlorine. In particular, chlorine has a strong negative effect on the fabric used in swimming garments. To extend the usable life of your Sunmate garments, please be sure to comply with the following advice:

  • Carefully rinse the garment in cold water after every time it is used. Don’t allow the wet garment to come into contact with wet towels, since that increases the risk of it being affected by any salt water or chlorine in the towels.
  • Wash the garment in a washing machine at 40 degrees. Preferably 30 degrees though, too be nice to the colours, allow it to drip dry afterwards.
  • Some fabrics, especially in light-coloured material, can bleach in sunlight. To minimise this risk, turn the garment inside-out before you hang it up to dry, well away from direct sunlight and heat.
  • Do not tumble dry these garments.
  • Watch out for any sharp surfaces, the edges of swimming pools, stones, gravel, and driftwood which can also damage the fabric.
